When I was 3, I first got put into statefoster care.
I bounced around back and forth between state foster care and my
biological mom until I was 7…and then got put with my Mom and
Dad who adopted me when I was 16 and have been with them ever
since. I got put in the same foster home whenever I went back to state
foster care…which is really unusual…and she was also African
American which is also unusual. I have talked to her a couple of
times since then and seen her…but not lately. I tried to redevelop a
relationship with my biological mom but she didn’t…you know…it
didn’t work out. They’ve (adoptive parents) done a lot for me. I just
hope that when I finally have kids I can raise them like they have
raised me.

Life Problems Faced
“Well, the sky is kinda like a dividing line. You can go this way with your life or go the other way. There are always clouds and always choices. I think we need to educate others about life and about choices. There will always be a silver lining.”

Family
A stable secure environment, Love and Support no matter what.
“(I earned) A journeyman’s license. I bought a house, bought a bike. According to all the statistics, you know, I should be on drugs and not holding a job…”
I was bouncing around in foster homes since I was 3 – for 4 years I
bounced back and forth and you know, I didn’t know if I was going to
be at this house one time…
Kids need stable home environments instead of bouncing them
around. We need to realize that we can’t force kids to open up…it is
a choice for them. I realized that my family would be there no matter
what.

“The thing is no matter what happens how bad your treated. Whatever happens to you makes you the person you are today!”
